The BBAC tournament is an annual event raising money to benefit the fight against cancer. Formed through the joint efforts of the Palm-Aire Men’s Golf Association (PAMGA) and the Palm-Aire Ladies’ Golf Association (PALGA), the BBAC seeks to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation through Arnie’s Army and breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The BBAC’s inaugural event was held on March 11, 2011 at Palm-Aire CC on the Palms Course with 88 golfers participating in the event. There was an exciting three ball playoff to determine the winner of the putting contest which had ended in a tie. Lunch was catered by Silver Lining, which runs the restaurant Jet Runway and services Ft. Lauderdale’s Executive Airports private planes. After the Tournament, participants enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and awards at the Isle Casino. Dinner was held at Farrady’s, the casino’s most prestigious restaurant, and participants were given a $10 card to try their luck on the Casino Floor. Some of the key sponsors included Wieder Realty, Publix grocery stores, and Pino Tile Company. Net proceeds for the tournament totalled $27,000 which was split evenly between Arnie’s Army and Susan G. Komen.
The next BBAC Tournament will be held on March 12, 2012 at the Palm-Aire CC with festivities to follow at the Isle Casino. With 72 golfers already registered and additional checks “in the mail”, the tournament this year promises to surpass last year’s inaugural event.
